Campfires and Camp Friends
We enjoyed another beautiful day here at Merrie Woode, with only the sunny sky above and the clear blue lake below. I took the time to languish in the half an hour more of sleep we got, and savored each bite of quiche and cinnamon roll. At chapel today we had a very special guest appearance of Captain Rainbow, who performed a piece of mimicry called “Father and Daughter.” I’ll admit, it got me a little weepy, but I enjoyed watching it with the rest of camp. After singing hymns and prayers, we all sat down together in the dining hall and ate fried chicken until we lulled ourselves into a peaceful rest hour.
This afternoon I hopped around to the various activities that were going on here at camp. First I stopped by the docks to wish the dam swimmers luck on their long and arduous voyage to the dam, then I said hello to the Balloon Fairy who was hard at work making balloons with the campers. On the swim docks I ran into a group of campers that were practicing some Zumba routines and occasionally jumping in the lake for water aerobics, and I found a similarly peppy group doing a field day on the Landsports field. In Castle I met up with the stagecrafters, and I caught some groups of campers on their way back from hiking in Panthertown, Silver Run Falls, and Old Bald. This evening’s cookout theme was Dynamic Duos, so of course I rounded up my friend the Wampus cat to complete my costume (as myself!). Finally, to end this lovely day, we sat down together once again around the campfire to sing songs both sweet and silly.
With all the virtues of Merrie Woode
