LIVE THAT THE SUNSET MAY FIND US…
The Wednesday Night Live skits from last night still had me in fits of giggles when I woke up this morning. It was chilly for July, so I threw on my sweet new Merrie-Woode sweatshirt, brushed my fur, and made my way down into camp. Lucky I got up as early as I did—I got to see the Knight level riders coming back from the overnight on the Old Bald Trail. The girls were having a grand time trotting and cantering around the Inn Site field on the way back, and I gaped in amazement of their poise, posture, and control of the horses.
Mossin’ Annie returned today to teach another large group of campers about the properties and characteristics of moss! She encouraged the nature classes to examine the colonies of moss through little glass loupes, where they were able to see the moss in a very close fashion! When no one was looking, I swiped a loupe to study the moss growing on my favorite tree.
I left Dammie’s Den to check out the commotion coming from Lily Pad. There, I saw that there was a backpacking skills class that was learning and performing skits about Leave No Trace ethics. The girls in this class also learned about trail etiquette and a few basic camping skills. From Lily Pad, I could hear the spring of the diving board, so I hopped out onto the docks and watched Starmate level boaters demonstrating their tuck and pike dives! I showed them a thing or two about the tuck dive, and eventually they all looked like little Tajars soaring through the air into the water.
Campers were learning to trot in the riding classes that I observed during third period this afternoon. The girls are really focusing on learning as many skills as they can and reaching their level goals as the session comes to a close.
I enjoyed a relaxing evening eating a ham sandwich from Bag Supper in the trees next to the lake and was even able to snag a cookie from the kitchen! I then made my way up to Castle to watch the movie. The campers cheered in delight when the projector turned on and displayed the opening credits of “Freaky Friday,” a remake of the 1976 Disney classic!
