OH OUR GUESTS, OUR GREETINGS WE EXTEND…
As I was resting on the camp gates this morning, some unfamiliar visitors who were not wearing greys and greens pulled into camp. I didn’t know who these friendly new faces were, so later, I crept up on some counselors to eavesdrop and learned that the ACA reaccreditation visit was today. This is when directors from other camps come to see how great Merrie-Woode is. I went back to roaming the woods, and I passed my good friend the Witch. She told me I should try to look my best for camp’s special guests. I bounced down to Lake Fairfield to rinse off, and I also said a quick hello to the Lady of the Lake. After I was glistening like the face of Old Bald on a sunny day, I followed the ACA guests around to find out more.
Our new friends were coming to make sure camp was in tip-top shape, but I pretty much do that on a daily basis. Nonetheless, I was proud to show off my lovely home. For just one day out of the summer, though, I did try to stay out of too much mischief.
As a Tajar, I am always collecting new jokes and tricks. I passed by the dining hall during lunch and overheard Jim telling a joke at Table One. “What is the tallest building at camp? Tajar (the library). It has the most stories!” I’ll be telling that one for weeks!
In the afternoon, I joined some cabins on the low ropes course, where I had a ball leaping from the ropes and trying to throw the campers off balance. The girls laughed as they were partnered up to overcome obstacles, gain confidence, and work as a team through the course.
I ended my night in the Castle rafters once again; however, this time it was to watch the counselors perform improv skits in the evening program, “Whose Line is it Anyway?” I chuckled all evening and tried to stay dry from the spontaneous rainstorm that was passing through.
After an exciting day of showing off my home to my new friends from the American Camp Association, I am tuckered out. All is well, safely rest.
