Lights, Camera, Action!
Curtains opened at 7:30 pm sharp and the cast of “1776” blew us away. I can’t speak on behalf of the audience, because, truth be told, Tajar sees the play tomorrow night. But based on the cheering and applause echoing off the mountain side, I imagine it was a crowd favorite. I’ll have a more thorough review coming at you tomorrow!
That being said, we have nearly ¾ of the play pictures from photo call up! The play, lengthy and detailed, needs ample time for photo ops, and we simply didn’t get through it all today. So, more pictures of the play are also coming tomorrow!
As someone who’s been around for over a century, I can say from the bottom of my heart that the production team one ups themselves every single year. Not only do they spend countless hours up in Castle painting, sanding, staining, rehearsing, sewing, and setting, they also do it with a smile on their faces. At the end of the day, their optimism, stick-to-itiveness and vision are the grounding spirits that bring joy to the lives of every camper here. We live for seeing their happy faces in the spotlight, and it wouldn’t be even remotely possible without the cast, crew, staff, and moral support of everyone in camp. Four weeks is simply no time to pull off a shebang like this one. But, as always, Lindsay and company make it look easy…
Tonight’s other Evening Program was Plaque Night. This night’s for cabins to decorate a plaque to commemorate their session at camp. Most of them are inside jokes, or funny little innuendos only those within the cabin understand. But, either way, they always come out cute and creative!
Things got a bit chilly today, which was a nice break from the rather warm weather we’ve had for a while. Everyone had on jackets and the blue sky provided some heat against the “cool” summer air. (We’re talking 64 degrees, so nothing too crazy!)
We had some trips go out today, as well. Between the river excursions and caving adventures, there’s no shortage of excitement for our outdoor programs.
Sadness is right around the corner and it comes in the form of packing. It’s that time of summer again…and none of us are ready for it. Five week flew by extra fast this year, thanks in part to all of the fun we’re having, but we’re still not ready for it to end.
I’ll be working on my blueprints for a time machine tonight as I try to configure a way to keep these campers here for another session. It’s been nearly too good to be true!
