Rain, Rain, Can’t Stop the Play
Today was the first day of activities, and while the consistent drizzle gave pause to some classes, everyone was having a great time regardless. I decided to visit the docks first to see how the campers were fairing on Lake Fairfield. The classes are going swimmingly, and campers were jumping into the lake with giggles and splashes. On the other side of camp at the barn the campers were getting to know all of the horses at the stables, as well as learning different breeds and colorings at the same time. This morning in King Arthurs Court, Mountaineering was hosting an all-morning Wall-day on the climbing wall! I tried my hand at belaying from below, but I just found that I preferred scaling the wall next to the campers.
In the afternoon I paid a visit to Farm and Garden, which was meeting the chickens and Middie the bunny for the first time. As it happens, there were quite a lot of eggs to be collected, and all of the campers helped out in finding them. After all of that fun, I went to see what the campers in Drama Games were doing. Not only were they learning the theatre terms for parts of the stage, but they were doing it through a fun game! Tonight’s Evening Program was Deck the Counselor, wherein each cabin graced the Castle stage and performed a little skit that introduced them to all of camp. There were lots of cabin dance parties, as well as puns on cabin names, and even Millie, the camp dog, joined in on the fun and helped the campers get some laughs. All in all, even though the rain never quite let up, we all now get to go to bed with the soft patter of raindrops on our cabin roofs.
Oh what a night,
