Sundaes, Balloons, and Bears, Oh My!
What adventures I had today! This morning, I tagged along on a Half-Day Hike with Mountaineering to Maiden Hair Falls. It was such a beautiful waterfall, and I can’t believe how close it is to camp! We came back just in time for lunch; Thursdays mean Pizza Day at Merrie Woode! After pizza, cabins that have had all “E” inspections this week got to have ice cream sundaes! Yummy, and definitely worth the sweeping!
In the afternoon I went to see all of our Merrie Woode guest teachers. First, I visited Rose from the Balsam Mountain Trust, who was here teaching Nature classes all about birds of prey. She taught us all about the beautiful screech owl and Harris’s Hawk that she brought with her; did you know that an owl can carry three times its body weight in its talons? How amazing. She also brought a teeny baby alligator, a possum, and a box turtle. Campers learned all about the animals’ adaptations that keep them safe in the wild.
Also visiting was the Balloon Fairy! She did a wonderful magic show before teaching campers a couple of little magic tricks of their own. Then she taught campers how to make balloon animals! We learned to make a flower and a really cool squid! It was a blast.
Tonight’s Evening Program was Movie Night! Everyone excitedly changed into their pajamas and gathered in Castle to watch Paddington, a lovely film based on the book Paddington Bear. It was a splendid ending to a splendid day!
Full of folly,
