God of the Hills…
I awoke very early to the sound of a camp van—it was the Caving Trip heading out for a day at Worley’s Cave in Tennessee. Then, just after breakfast I waved goodbye to two more trips: a river trip to the Lower Green and an all-day climb at Looking Glass Rock. All of the campers were very excited for their trips!
Later on, I went swinging through the trees to visit the Nature Nook! Rob Gudger of Wolf Tales was visiting Nature classes with a beautiful Red Wolf. He talked all about wolves and their natural habitat. It was very interesting, and his wolf was so friendly—we even got to pet him!
In the afternoon I put on my favorite baseball cap and followed a group of over sixty girls on one of my favorite Merrie Woode traditions: the Old Bald Hike! We had a lovely afternoon hiking up to the top for a beautiful view of camp from above. What a perfect way to spend the last day of activities!
Tonight’s Evening Program was Closing Campfire. Four campers received their Merrie Woode Bracelets! I cannot believe it has been six years since they started at Merrie Woode! After singing some songs around the campfire, everyone gathered on the Swim Docks to sing Taps. As per tradition, Denice recited Dammie and Ruth’s Closing Prayer. I hope that every camper takes these words with her as she returns to her home:
“God of the Hills, grant me Thy strength to go back into the cities without faltering, strength to help my neighbor who has no hills to remember…”
With love,
Tajar

A Note About Pickup Day
It’s hard to believe that this session is coming to an end already. It seems like we just got started. We wanted to remind you that you can pick up your daughters from 8 – 10 AM on Wednesday (8/12) morning. The girls will have a continental breakfast in the Dining Hall and then be patiently awaiting your arrival. If you are planning to linger in camp for a few minutes, we would appreciate your loading your car and then parking on the Archery Field so that others can drive in and load. Please keep in mind that our counselors are not allowed to leave and go back home until all of their campers have been picked up. Please try to arrive between 8 and 10 AM. Thank you very much. We’ll look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, and we hope you enjoy the remainder of your summer.
