Save Your Goodbyes for the Mornin’
All the activities of the session concluded yesterday, so today after breakfast campers had extra time to begin the packing process. Mountaineering went down the lines in trucks to collect trunks and duffles being shipped—a brand new tactic that saved everyone the big trek to the Program Office! Once that process was complete, we all met at Lily Pad for our final Devotional. Also at Lily Pad, we had time to recognize everyone’s accomplishments this summer! Levels in Swimming, Tumbling, Tennis, Sailing, Archery, Riding and so much more received recognition. We even had one camper make Horsemaster in Riding! What an accomplishment!
After Devotional and Recognitions, Synchronized Swimming performed their Final Show. What a hoot! We then gathered at the Tennis Court for the Tennis Tournament Finals. The Camper-Counselor Tennis Tournament has been playing almost all session and it finally came down to two camper-counselor teams.
We had lunch and a much-deserved Rest Hour before heading to the Barn to watch the Drill Team’s presentation. After Riding, we gathered in Castle to watch all of the dance, drama, and music classes perform their Final Shows. Once finished in Castle, we moved up to King Arthur’s Court, where Tumbling and Stage Combat rounded out our day of performances. From Drill Team to Jazz to Ukulele to Stage Combat, our campers have accomplished so much this summer! I can’t believe what a talented bunch we have here at Merrie Woode!
Campers had more packing time after Final Shows and then everyone got dressed for Banquet! They all had a blast eating with their cabins for one last delicious meal, complete with Brownie Pie for dessert. At Banquet, counselors dress as campers, Senior Staff, and other goofy things that pertain to the summer. The meal was filled with singing, goofing around, and lots of laughs. After dinner, everyone met at Castle for the Banquet Performance. Counselors made up songs and skits about the summer and then sang traditional songs that always bring everyone to tears. I will close this blog with my favorite Banquet lyrics:
“Remember me someday when you’re lonely, and know you have a Carolina Friend.”
Still very full of folly,
