Lessons Learned at Mother & Daughter Weekend
The past three days have filled camp once again with songs and laughter as a big group of mothers (and grandmothers and aunts) and their daughters came in for the weekend. We couldn’t have asked for a better prequel to the summer! Folks came from all over; some hadn’t been back to camp in many years, and some had never been at all! Everyone left with that tiny spark of fire, the spirit of Merrie-Woode.
Everyone arrived on Friday afternoon eager for the weekend to start and left Sunday not ready for it to end. In between, we all enjoyed s’mores after campfire, a hike up Old Bald, activities, a night of Minute to Win It, and a beautiful morning in Chapel. It was an honor being able to participate in the second of what we hope will be many Mother & Daughter weekends. If the success of this event is any indication, this summer will be the best ever!
My own experience of the weekend was a whirlwind of fun and excitement. I ran the official CMW social media, the Stock Shop, and Minute to Win It all for the first time. I learned on social media people seem to appreciate Denice making a funny face more than a pun (I posted a picture of Denice in a moment of puzzlement over a tissue paper flower; “Thanks for the picture, EMILY,” Denice says to me first thing this morning. It got the most likes of the entire weekend.). In the Stock Shop, I learned I am not cut out for retail. At Minute to Win It, I learned moms can do almost anything in a minute (I’m still baffled.).
I feel like I could sleep for several days now, and I’m happy to be worn out. I’m glad I got to be a part of introducing Merrie-Woode to newcomers of all ages and a small part of the Merrie-Woode experience of those returning. There’s nothing quite as satisfying as being worn out doing something fulfilling. I hope all the participants got as much out of the weekend as I did!
