SOMEWHERE THAT’S GREEN…
An alien plant came to life once again on the Castle stage tonight as brilliantly costumed performers danced and sang the story of the Little Shop of Horrors. The show, which is a musical spoof on old black and white sci-fi movies, is set in a rough urban downtown district. It is narrated by a sassy group of street urchins who tell us the story of Seymour, Audrey, a florist named Mr. Mushnik, and a strange carnivorous plant. As the story unfolds, themes of morality and the dangers of desire are laced with clever writing and goofy characters for comic relief. The Merrie-Woode cast and crew put on two top notch performances; I can’t believe it all came together in four and a half weeks!
I awoke to a cheery sound this morning; Christmas music was playing from the Dining Hall! I love Christmas in July even more than I love grilled cheese and tomato soup (which is what was for lunch today). The cabins of Bum’s Rest and Camelot pulled their annual prank at breakfast this morning. The prank was camping themed; they hung hammocks around the room and even set up a small log fire where Table One usually sits. I love a good prank and only wish I had thought of this idea first! We ate our baked oatmeal and sang carols, and then went on our Merrie ways.
Dammie Day and Mary Turk made a surprise visit to camp for lunch today! I was thrilled to welcome back two of my oldest friends. Dammie and Mary invited some lucky campers to an ice cream social with them (an auction prize from earlier in the session). Also during lunch, the Glee Club left to go rehearse their performance tonight at the Andy Roddick “Summer Soiree” Gala that was hosted at the Inn Site.
Pages, Yeomans, and Squires all enjoyed plaque night out on the waterfall field this evening. With Closing Day just around the corner, the campers deeply appreciated this fun activity of cabin bonding and silliness. Speaking of Closing Day, please check out the link below regarding information about Monday. As a reminder, because Monday is closing day, camp will be following a different schedule on Sunday; we will be having final shows and packing, so there will not be Chapel.
Merrie Christmas (in July). Don’t feed the plants!
