EACH CAMPFIRE LIGHTS ANEW…
The sun is setting on Opening Day of this final camp session. It was heartening to see the new bunch of bright-eyed faces gathered around the campfire ring! I have already made lots of new friends today as many of the campers are here at Merrie-Woode for the first time. I can’t wait to show them the tricks of the trade and just a few tricks in general.
Campers poured onto the swim docks this morning to take a dip in the lake. After a chicken finger lunch, everyone split into age groups to complete a round robin. The round robin activities were geared towards reorienting returning campers and teaching the new ones about camp songs, geography and buildings, and activities. Part of the rotation even included a visit to the campfire ring to learn more about tonight’s traditional evening program!
After the rotation, the girls had a bit of free time to be with their new cabin mates and finish unpacking. The dinner bell rang, and a filling meal of home-style spaghetti and meatballs was served. Free boats occurred after dinner, and the girls had the opportunity to go paddle in canoes and kayaks before Opening Campfire, the evening program of the night. All of the cabins lined up according to age as the girls all filed into the campfire ring. Mountaineering staff built a roaring fire and all of camp sang songs until they sang “Shiney Miney” and walked out onto the Waterfall Field. After Taps, the campers headed to their cabins for a restful night.
Tuckered Out,
