THE WIND IN THE PINES
Sounds of laughter echoed throughout the cabin lines as the girls started getting ready for the day. I snatched a slice of French toast from the Dining Hall this morning on the way to Castle where the cabin of Bum’s Rest gave our daily devotion. The virtue of the day was Vision, and the campers were challenged to make the most of their summers here. After some inspiring quotes, I knew just how I wanted to spend this first day of the Main Session.
I bounded down to jewelry to see what was going on during the first morning of classes. I was not surprised to see the girls already busy at work creating colorful beaded bracelets and wire-wrapped pendants for necklaces. I requested a Tajar-sized bracelet from Dolores, so hopefully I can blend in with all the campers and their new bling. I frolicked around camp the rest of the morning checking on all the activities and watching the campers diving into their projects.
The lunch bell is one of my favorite sounds. After eating my favorite meal, grilled cheese and tomato soup, I had just enough energy to scurry up to Castle to peek in on the auditions for “Little Shop of Horrors.” I tiptoed in as quietly as I could (Lindsay would not be happy with me if I interrupted the auditions). After seeing all of the talented campers on stage, I am already planning which tux to wear for the production at the end of the session.
I hung around Castle after auditions, because the evening program was Deck the Counselor! I loved watching all the cabin’s skits and songs. The girls wowed me with skits including hilarious puns, funny dance moves, and crazy costumes.
After an eventful day, I sure am ready to hear Jim play Taps and fall asleep to the sounds of the bullfrogs.
