KNOW YOU HAVE A CAROLINA FRIEND
It is hard to believe that today was the final day of camp. Instead of normal activities, the girls were able to go back to their cabins and begin the packing process. From the roof of the Program Office, I saw a peculiar line of trunks starting to form near the door. I realized the trunks were in line to be shipped home. After packing time, everyone gathered in Chapel to have the final Castle of the session. The three youngest cabins, Sunny Shack, Mushroom and Du Kum Inn, gave the last devotional, which encourage all to take in the last few hours of camp and the delightful people here.
After devotion, awards were given out. Counselors from Archery, Swimming, Tumbling, Mountaineering, Riding, and Boating distributed awards to campers who passed a level in that activity. As I watched all the girls step forward to be recognized, I was amazed once more to see how much they could accomplish in three weeks! Following awards, everyone made their way to the swimming area to watch the synchronized swimming routine, which was based off of the hit Disney Channel Movie, “High School Musical.” The girls did a fantastic job, and everyone in the audience was extremely impressed.
After rest hour, campers and counselors hiked to the covered riding arena to see the Drill Team’s presentation, which was in sync. We could all tell that the girls on drill team had been practicing exceptionally hard for this day. In Castle, the guitar class played “I’m Yours,” by Jason Mraz, while the camp Glee Club and tap class performed a joint performance to Nat King Cole’s hit song “LOVE.” The dance classes impressed all of Castle, and after their shows, everyone made their way up to King Arthur’s Court to watch the tumbling routines. The flipping and twirling through the air made me want to practice my cartwheels under the moonlight. To finish the afternoon, everybody gathered around the tennis courts to watch the final match of the camper/counselor tennis tournament. The girls were extremely competitive, and it was a well-played match.
Around dinner time, I swung by the Dining Hall to see the counselors getting ready for Banquet. Cabins sat together and a delicious dinner was served with a special treat of brownie pie for dessert! The Dining Hall was buzzing with laughter and singing as counselors TG’ed for the campers. The campers loudly sang how they do not want to go home! How I wish they could stay all summer… In Castle, the campers watched the counselors put on a presentation of fun and entertaining skits. Thanks for a wonderful session, and we can’t wait to see everyone back next summer!
Signing off until Main Session,
